Apple-CEO und -Gründer Steve Jobs verordnet sich bis Ende Juni eine Zwangspause, weil es um seine Gesundheit schlechter bestellt ist als angenommen. Dies kündigte der 53-Jährige seinen Mitarbeitern am Mittwoch in einer E-Mail an - die Apple-Aktie fiel daraufhin um 10 Prozent.

Vergangenen Herbst hatte die US-Nachrichtenagentur Bloomberg sogar versehentlich einen Nachruf auf den Silicon-Valley-Pionier veröffentlicht. „Die Berichte über meinen Tod sind reichlich übertrieben“, scherzte der Apple-Chef bei einem Medienevent im September. Seit dieser Woche ist es amtlich: Das DRM, sprich der Kopierschutz für digitale Musik ist gescheitert. Apple-Marketingchef Phil Schiller hat auf der “Macworld” angekündigt, ab April 2009 alle Songs im hauseigenen Internet-Musikladen, dem iTunes Store, ohne Kopierschutz anzubieten. Dieser Schritt markiert quasi den Todesstoß für das Digitale Rechtemanagement (DRM), sprich den Verfahren, mit denen die Nutzung und Verbreitung digitaler Medien kontrolliert werden soll. Denn: Apple ist mit seinem iTunes Store schließlich der weltweit größte Digital-Musikhändler. Laut Schiller zählt der Webladen mittlerweile 75 Millionen Kunden, die seit 2003 sechs Milliarden digitalisierte Musikstücke heruntergeladen haben.
