Google’s in the news since the past couple of weeks for all good things and bad. Now, something that’s not in the extremes is Google and it’s BETA tags. What’s funny is that several of Google’s products, Gmail included have been around for quite a few (about 4-5) years now and are still in Beta. And now they are debating whether to get those tags off.

And why is it that Google stuck onto it, and why are they contemplating getting it off now? Well Google probably thought it’s more cushioned to be on Beta because that way well, you won’t be at peril if something goes wrong with it right? Anything that’s in Beta generally means it’s half done and can encounter problems.

But well, now that isn’t quite going to be at Google’s advantage with enterprise customers, who aren’t willing to take the risk, although they do understand that Google’s Beta never really means that it is really in Beta.

So you might see em Beta logos down soon, so just don’t be surprised.

One last thing just for the record: According to Comscore Google’s beta email service Gmail now (April 2009) has 146 million users worldwide.
