Skype and Nokia team-up to add VOIP app to the mobile phone
The famous voice-chat messenger Skype will soon find its way to Nokia phones muck like Truphone is for the iPhone. Skype and Nokia recently partnered to offer the VOIP program on selected Nokia handsets.
The team-up was recently announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and excited a lot of people but not the mobile operators. Use of Skype over cellphones would mean the end for them because networks would no longer be needed.
Starting in the 3rd quarter of 2009, Nokia N97 will get Skype-integration. With the use of WiFi and 3G, anyone can communicate via Skype on the phone for a lower price. This may not be the first of its kind since a beta version of Skype can now work well with some Sony Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola, and LG phones.
