Fujitsu Releases New Version of IP-9500e MPEG-4 AVC Encoder to Expand Satellite News Gathering Capabilities

October 13, 2008

Updated Firmware Enables Cost-Effective HD Video Capture for Remote
News Feeds while Maintaining Superior Picture Quality

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 13 — Fujitsu Computer Products of
America, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative computer products and
broadcast solutions, today announced the latest revision of its IP-9500e
MPEG-4 AVC encoder, the industry’s leading encoding solution for real-time
broadcast quality contribution content. The revision 3.1 firmware expands
the IP-9500’s capabilities for HD satellite news gathering (SNG)
applications, combining a robust, cost-effective solution for full HD video capture over DVB-ASI and IP with the IP-9500’s superior picture quality and unparalleled 300-millisecond total latency. Fujitsu will demonstrate the IP-9500 with revision 3.1 firmware during the HD World Conference & Expo, October 15-16, 2008, at booth #825, at the Javits Convention Center in NewYork.

“The Fujitsu IP-9500e is an essential component to our HD satellite
news delivery services because it yields the best picture quality for HD
content while reducing our overall costs by allowing us to transmit
high-definition feed at the same data rates as standard definition feeds,”
said James Gilbert, CEO of On Call Communications, a leading provider of
automated, mobile satellite solutions. “The newest revision 3.1 firmware
enables our broadcast digital video uplink to optimize the HD video quality
over our Intelsat IP uplink and also provides sophisticated Forward Error
Correction and Automatic Re-request, found only in the IP-9500e. We look
forward to continue working with Fujitsu and its partners to provide our
customers with the most comprehensive, cost-effective HD satellite
broadcasting solutions available today.”

The IP-9500e’s exceptional picture quality at low bitrates and
low-latency enables HD SNG and transmission of live events using existing
broadcast satellite infrastructure. The revision 3.1 firmware extends the
IP-9500e’s satellite transmission capabilities and incorporates an enhanced
feature set to cost-effectively meet broadcasters’ real-time content
delivery needs.

“The ability to capture and transmit high-quality HD signals from the
field is critical for broadcasters as they seek to enhance their portfolio
of HD programming to meet viewer demand,” said Vic Herring, senior
director, video solutions group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc.
“The IP-9500e has set the industry standard when it comes to picture
quality and low-latency, and the revsion 3.1 firmware enables broacasters
and their affiliates to cost-effectively expand their sattelite news
service to include full HD content from the field.”
