Solar refrigerators: Promethean Power System gets funding for solar-powered fridge

India-based Promethean Power Systems will soon start its project of building solar-powered fridge after they received a generous funding from the Quercus Trust as finalized this week.
There is already a prototype of the refrigerator which was presented at the recent Technology Review EmTech 2008 conference. The fridge is said to feature a hybrid compressor, 180-watt solar panels and a diesel generator to run the cooling unit.
As explained by a CNET report, the ‘electricity from the panels flows through the thermoelectric modules’ while a ‘heat-exchange system of water tubes creates ice for cold storage’.
