SMS conquers the U.S.: Americans send more text messages than call

September 23, 2008

girl_texting_instant_messaging by momentimediaAccording to a recent research by Nielsen Mobile,  Americans now send text messages more than they use the mobile phone for calls. A typical American subscriber now receives and sends an average of 357 SMS messages.

Compared to the 204 phone calls being made, text messaging has gone up during the 2nd quarter of 2008 and increased about 450% from two years ago says Wired.

Teenagers send most messages each day and they actually receive an average of 1,742 text messages a month.

I’m personally surprised since the rest of the world has long been heavy text message users already since the past century. Why, I used to be known as a heavy texter sending more than two thousand texts before per month. A long time ago when I only had to pay less $5 monthly for sending and receiving unlimited messages and my fingers were not sore.
