Dell capitalizes on emerging markets

August 31, 2008

Dell-Studio-15As Dell is clearing up a lot of wrinkles considering its recently plummeted stock prices and the like, looks like it is all set to deliver on its venture to boost laptop and desktop sales in a big way in other countries, especially the emerging markets.

Dell has unveiled two laptops and two desktops on Wednesday, with the laptops starting at $475, and netbooks starting at $440, and will be available in more than 20 countries, including Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Europe. The laptops are available in two screen sizes, that is, 14.5 and 15.5 inches. While the laptops will use Intel Celeron or Core2Duo processors, and Ubuntu Linux or Windows Vista, the desktop will use Intel Atom, Celeron, or Pentium processors, and Ubuntu or Vista.

This comes in close footing to Micheal Dell’s recent comments where he said while the sale of laptops and desktops in the US would be okay, the sales are expected to meet expectations set in these countries.

Dell has traditionally derived the majority of its business here in the U.S., but for the first time ever its international business ticked above 50 per cent of the company’s total last quarter. China is also maneouvering its moves well in China, where a close rival HP is also enjoying major gas.
