E-ink Display Now Available on Mobile Phones

January 31, 2008

hitachi_1-thumb-450x338The world of mobile phones has perhaps almost reached it’s end. I mean, you can now watch TV, movies, take pictures, listen to music, and even work with your phones. I wonder what the phone companies will offer next. I am sure they still have more innovations in mind but the race is still on for the best design.
Hitachi is the first to release a clamshell phone with e-ink display. It does not have much purpose but I know a lot of people will dig such display. Since the market for cutesy phones is huge, Hitachi can lead with their e-ink display. The phone comes with the usual Japanese phone features: super sharp display at 240×400 pixels ; Micro SD card slot, GPS or EZ Nabi Walk, and 100mb internal memory.

What’s so good about this phone is that its display uses Hitachi’s very own Woo technology, the same technology used in their LCD TVs. And since this phone is made especially for Japanese consumers, the e-ink display phone also allows wireless payments with Felica. You can also watch TV using the phone because it has one seg tuner.

Yet to be released this March 2008, the Hitachi W61H will be available in three colors only: white, black, and green. No word yet on the price.
