The Nintendo Wii as a therapeutic tool

They say, at the end of the tunnel, all gadget breaks into one whole that helps mould everything around you. Looks like this is the case right here. The Nintendo Wii, which is probably one entertainment gadget you don’t live a day without hearing about, is now being used as a rehab tool in hospitals. Yeah, you heard it right. The game apparently helps patients energize and regain a sense of balance, endurance, co-ordination and upper and lower body strength by playing it for just 30 minutes twice or thrice a week. So that’s good news for the Nintendo Wii manufacturers right, who probably have captured a section of the audience they never intended to have on agenda in the first place.
That apart. the weather and news channels that can be accessed by the entertainment gadget also help the patients keep abreast of what’s happening around the globe, and thus help stimulate the brain. The Ohio State University Medical Center’s Dodd Hall Rehabilitation Hospital in Columbus are one of the forerunners in this innovative use, and have been using it for the past few months to help people recovering from strokes and spinal cord or traumatic brain injuries. Neat, I’d say.
