Smart Fabrics for diagnosis: Hospital visits are now going to be fun

July 31, 2007

No matter how many tireless hours we spend at the gym, we all fall ill, don’t we? We all have that moment of physical weakness no matter how robust our systems are isn’t it? But don’t we just hate being all tied down with all sorts of diagnostic elements while at the hospital?

While staying diagnosed at the hospital is inevitable, you might heave a sigh of relief if you could lay your hands on what those researchers up there from Arkansas have developed. Well, if you’re still wondering what it is, they’ve tailored an outfit that can monitor a patient’s respiration rate and body temperature in real time and send it to a server such that problems when noticed can be immediately acted upon. They integrated organic semiconductor and electrical-engineering into smart fabrics garments with wireless technology.

That sounds great to me. I won’t hesitate being at the hospital if I could walk all over the place in an outfit like that, waving kisses at the young docs and male patients. But then, that’s me. If you’re a lover of convenience and comfort, this one’s for you my boy.
