Ring-ring! Premium mobile content slated to double by 2011
June 30, 2007

What’s the best video interface after the “oh-so-promising” internet? Exactly, it´s the cell phone in your hand. So you see, if there’s anything that TV makers need to be worried about apart from the internet, it’s definitely the cell phone in your hand, which according to iSupply, is all set to take over half the world’s population by the end of this year.
Now with growth like that, what exactly is the scenario for mobile content like? Well, for starters, the premium mobile content market (mobile music, games, graphics, video and adult content) is slated to double by 2011 (Source: iSupply).
Of course mobile content distribution follows a different trend worldwide, with India leading the bandwagon in Asia, and Italy, slated to set the records in Western Europe by 2011.
Ringtones specifically, are currently the most popular category of them all (I totally agree. Each time I call a friend, I hear some depressing track playing). Agreed, that it’s meant to lighten up the caller’s mood, but sometimes it can have some really annoying tracks. The top five markets for ringtones will be China, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States in 2011. However, many country-level markets will peak before 2011, according to techno-analysts worldwide.
In my opinion, more than anything else, it’s got a lot to do with the fact that more and more people are becoming career-oriented and the only two things that they primarily connect with daily are their cell phones and the Internet. Hence, interactive video on the cell phone is something that mobile content providers can truly leverage upon to keep these motion-addicts glued to their services.(NiRa)
