Self-operated Taser Guns: Now they don´t even have to move a finger

June 30, 2007

Robo-Tasers remote controlled taser gunsImagine your President just asked for extra security against inscrutable elements, and what he gets is his home surrounded by the much controversial and talked about robot taser guns. Yeah, completely self-operated. Scary, you might say, well so do I.

Taser International recently rolled out its Taser Remote Area Denial (TRAD) system — a networked series of sensors and stun-gun projectiles that promises to “observe, warn, incapacitate (this word scares me!) and retain intruders” from afar.

So the next time you ask for security, you better make sure you know what you’re asking for and if you do, you pre-feed all your loved ones onto the Taser system. You don’t want your honey jumping off your gate and climbing up the gutter to sneak a sweet surprise and get “incapacitated” midway. Read more

You can now touch 3D images

June 30, 2007

NTT
Imagine you’re watching this awesome “Discovery-channel-type” movie in an IMAX theatre (3-D movie theatre), and you can hold out your hand and touch that enormous creature up there. Incredible, I’d say. I’d be on the edge of my seat if I could do that. Well, the funny thing is, now I can.

Japanese firm NTT (Japanese are brainacs, I’d say), has unveiled a system that makes three dimensional images solid enough to grasp. Wait, don’t gasp yet!
This amazing technology could enable you to feel like you’re touching your distant loved ones while you have a virtual tête-à-tête with them. So now even if your honey is sitting miles away, you can touch him or her (well, not quite literally) while chatting with him or her on Skype or other distance-busters. Read more

Spi-Dog: Shake that booty, Fido!

June 30, 2007

In an era where indulgence is definitely not a much-pursued art, one can all but be thankful for the whacky yet cute robotic Spi-dog (nah, he ain’t no watchdog wagging his tail each time he sees a potential intruder), but he can definitely jive to some great music while you’re crunched up in your couch at the end of a long day.

Funny as it may seem, it’s basically a robotic pup in a spider man costume (yeah I told you robots could kick some ass), who can be plugged on to most music systems and it starts dancing to the tune played. I’m wondering what it would look like dancing on a “hips don’t lie” by Shakira. Lol! Read more

GE A730: Top compact digital camera on a budget

June 30, 2007

Just about 12 months ago $100 only got you a low quality, low resolution digital compact camera equipped with poor zooming and focussing capablities plus a super tiny LCD display. Finally, these days are over, the same $100 can buy you a pretty good compact camera now. The best example is the new seven Megapixel digital camera GE A730 by U.S. giant General Electric. Sure, this is not a premium brand camera such as the compact’s from Nikon, Sony, Canon or Kodak that retail easily for $100 to $150 more then GE model. However, the GE A730 delivers a solid mix of high-end options and easy-to-use functions on a budget - and even gives you more Megapixels then more expensive models from Canon or Kodak. Also: The GE gives you the ability to capture MPEG video Read more

iPhonication: Apple iPhone costs more then u think …

June 30, 2007

With the iPhone fever at its optimum best and the mega phone finally in stores (BTW: Gizmonistas! has one as well, see here ;)), you would read thousands of lovey dovey blogs about its greatness and so would you hear tons of apple-bashing ones! (like the one you’re reading now! Nah, just kidding).

Although Apple scores great with its final upfront pricing among everything it produces, I wonder how it plans to keep it great in the cell phone world!

As per calculations by some techno-analysts out there, it might cost you anything from $1974 to $5814 for a 4 GB one over the 2 year period (depending on which plan you’ve roped yourself into, and anywhere from $2074 to $5914 for an 8 GB one! Now that’s crazy you might say! I’m sure the sophistication and everything that the phone offers is a part cushion against your worries, and moreover why create a fuss about it? Read more

Apple: Secret camera upgrades for MacBook Pro

June 30, 2007

PC maker Apple Inc has secretly upgraded the Santa Rosa MacBook Pro with a new, higher resolution digital camera. The so far used 640×480 pixel camera has been quietly replaced with 1.3MP (1280x 1024) model. A number of Apple Macintosh developers have noticed and piblicized the change in model numbers when they tested their iSight enhancement application iGlasses on the new notebooks at the Apple World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco earliier this month.
According to tech news site Wired.com, the Apple experts biked down to the local Apple store and ran some tests on the Macs there. Sure enough, the new cams were in there but oddly, built in applications like iChat don’t use the full resolution. The guys also believe that the camera wasn’t enabled at all until the recent OS X 10.4.10 update. Anyone out there with shiny new MacBook Pros, please leave your test results in the comments.
